My favorite assessment is the PEABODY Picture Vocabulary Test which was first published in 1959 and has since been updated and revised. This test is meant for anyone between the ages of 2.5 years old to 90+ years old. It is a norm-reference test, measures receptive vocabulary, is in full color, and requires no verbal response. This assessment has a high reliability and a good validity. The PEABODY examines acquired knowledge which is most likely why it has such a high score stability. As far as testing students with disabilities, this is a very great assessment. It does not require a verbal response, it is not timed, it starts at a very low level, and it is a reliable screen for verbal development. All in all this is a great assessment for students. The only limitation of this test would be it is testing acquired knowledge and performance may influenced on culture and exposure to certain content.
